Where is the serial number on an ASUS P8Z77-V motherboard My serial number is on the side of the PCI-e x16_1 slot, the GPU 1 slot. It's on the side facing the CPU socket. There is no other way than the Original Retail box to find the serial number without opening the case and looking at the motherboard. THe serial number for your Rampage III Extreme is located on the side of the lower PCI slot.

If the computer you use for your business sporadically shuts down, freezes or refuses to boot, you may worry that something is wrong with your ASUS motherboard. The motherboard connects the computer's various hardware components together, including the processor, RAM and video card. If you contact the ASUS technical support team for a repair or replacement, you will need to provide the serial number and model number of the motherboard. Even if your motherboard hasn't stopped working, identifying it will help you learn what upgrade parts to buy for your computer. By adding more RAM and processing power, you will get better performance and increased productivity for your business projects.

1.

Review the user's manual that shipped with your ASUS motherboard. The manual usually lists the model and serial number of the motherboard.

2.

Restart the computer and press the 'Pause/Break' key when 'ASUS xxxx ACPI BIOS Revision' appears on the screen. The model number is displayed.

3.

Look at the motherboard's packaging if available to determine the serial number. Locate a sticker on the exterior of the carton and make a note of the number that follows 'Serial No.'

4.

Run a software application that will scan your hardware resources and identify the motherboard. Free programs include Belarc Advisor and CPU-Z.

5.

Open the computer case and look for the serial number and model number printed directly on the motherboard. On many ASUS motherboards, the model number is printed between the PCI slots.

6.

Look for the FCC number on the motherboard if you don't know the manufacturer's name. Not all motherboards have this number. If you find it, go to the FCC ID Search page (link in Resources). Search for the grantee code, or the first three characters of the FCC number, and the product code, which is the last three characters of the number. This will tell you the manufacturer of the motherboard.

Tip

  • Once you know your motherboard's serial number or model number, go to the ASUS website to view documentation, download drivers and obtain support.

Sometimes abbreviated as Serial No., SN or S/N, a serial number is a unique number assigned to the PC by the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) used for identification and inventory purposes. A serial number allows the manufacturer to identify a product and get additional information about it, for replacement, or as a means of finding compatible parts.
This tutorial will show you how to find the serial number of your Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 10 PC.

  • If you have a laptop, flip it over to the bottom side. On some laptops, you will see the number on a manufacturer sticker on the bottom of the laptop. On others, you’ll see the number printed directly on the metal or plastic. If your laptop has a removable battery, the serial number is sometimes on a sticker inside the battery compartment, under the battery.
  • If you have a desktop, look at the back, top, side, or inside of the case for a manufacturer sticker.

If you can’t find the serial number on the PC itself, look online for instructions specific to your PC's model number. The manufacturer’s website should tell you exactly where to look.
