Music Square does not work nor load songs for me; it returns a 'Selected List Empty' message. What should I do?

There are Samsung Galaxy S3 versions that may have problems with Music Square. This is a common issue for some S3 users. If Music Square does not work for you, and you have at least 25 songs in your library, here's a fix you can try that has been proven to work for people with similar problems.

  • Transfer all of your music files from your phone's internal memory to your SD card.
    • Using your default file explorer, My Files, go to Device storage and locate the music files.
    • Put a check mark on the boxes beside the music files to select them. You can select all files in a specific folder by opening the folder and tapping on the Menu button. The 'Select All' option will be displayed; just tap on it.
    • Once selected, tap on the 'More Options' button (icon with three horizontal lines) on the upper-right part of your screen.
    • From the list of options, tap on 'Move' and open the desired folder on your external memory (SD card).
    • Once you are on the folder, tap on 'Move Here' to move the selected files to that location. You are done transferring music files from your internal memory to your SD card.
  • Install SIM Card and Battery on Samsung Galaxy S4 and the SD card.
  • Reinsert the battery alone; do not include the SD card. Do not put on your back cover yet.
  • Turn your phone on again.
  • 'Force Stop' your Music Player application. To Force stop, go to Home > Apps list > Settings > More > Application Manager > Swipe to the right until you get to 'All' tab > Scroll down and look for Music Player and tap on it > Tap on Force Stop.
  • 'Clear Data' on your Music Player application. To clear data, go to Home > Apps > Settings > More > Application Manager > Swipe to the right until you get to 'All' tab > Scroll down and look for Music Player and tap on it > Tap on Clear Data.
  • 'Clear Cache' on your Music Player application. To Clear cache, go to Home > Apps list > Settings > More Tab > Application Manager > Swipe to the right until you get to 'All' tab > Scroll down and look for Music Player and tap on it > Tap on Clear Cache.
  • After clearing data and cache, insert the SD card back into your device.
  • Go to the Apps list and open the Music Player application.
  • Go to the Music Square tab.
  • Songs will now start loading and you can use Music Square.
  • Enjoy!

You will need to have at least 25 songs on your device in order for Music Square to begin working.

How do I stop Music Square picking up Audiobook files and playing them?

My Audiobook files are in a separate folder from the music files (both on my SD), but it seems to include them in the music square. Thanks!

Music Square will scan for all music files, both in your phone's internal and external memory. Any music file whether it's an audio recording or an Audiobook will be analyzed and included in Music Square's playlist. There's a little trick to exclude audiobooks from becoming part of Music Square's music playlist. Follow the procedures:

  • Temporarily move your audiobooks to your computer.
  • Once done, open Music Square and tap on the Menu key.
  • From your Menu options, tap on Library Update. This will update Music Square's library, and since your audiobooks are not on your phone, they will not be included in the update.
  • You can then put the audiobooks back on your phone.
  • Check on the Music Square playlists, your audiobooks will not be on the list anymore.
  • Updating the library again with the Audiobook files on your phone will include the audiobooks in your Music Square.

Music Square will pick up any and all media located in your music library. If you don't want the audiobooks to be played, you can either select the next song to play or move the audiobooks to another folder in your device using a PC.

How To Download Music On Samsung Galaxy S3

You may stop Music Square from picking up the Audiobook files on your phone by doing the following.

  • Open your File browser.
  • Go to the folder where your audiobooks are located.
  • Create a new file and name it .nomedia and leave it in the folder with your audiobooks.
  • That's it. Your Audiobook files won't appear on Music Square again.
  • When you create a .nomedia and put it in a folder, that folder will not be scanned by Music Square.
  • If you can't create a new file using your current file browser, please download ES file explorer on Google Play Store.

Music player on Galaxy S3 is not identifying sufficient music files to work?

Music square is not 'seeing ' my music files. How can I make the upwards of 600 songs I have stored on my phone visible to Music Squares?

Yes, the music picked for each individual square is supposed to represent your mood and does not access all the songs in your library. You'll need to update your library by hitting Menu, then Select, then 'Library Update'.

Why won't it let me select my music?

Whenever I'm on Music Square and I tap on one of the boxes it says 'Selected Box Empty'. How do I put songs in the boxes? Do I need to connect with a PC with a USB cable? Thank you.

How

You do not place the songs in the Music Square - Music Square selects the songs depending on the beat and wording of the song and places the song in a music category.

Please note: the location of your downloads may vary depending on the nature of the download and the app you use to download. Some downloads will not be available in your download folder if they were downloaded through certain apps.

For example:Netflix offers a download option so that its users can view content offline. However, anything downloaded through Netflix would need to be watched through the Netflix app and will not appear in your downloads folder as a viewable video.

You can find all the files on your smartphone in My Files. By default, this will appear in the folder titled 'Samsung' on your apps screen.

If you can't find it, type 'My Files' into the search finder at the top of the apps screen.

Please note: not all downloaded content will be available in My Files. Content that has been downloaded within a streaming app that allows listening or viewing offline will normally be available only within that app itself. This is most commonly due to copyright restrictions.

The location of your files can depend on where you have set the default download location. For example, if you have set your photos to download to the SD card, it will appear under 'SD card' rather than 'internal storage'.

The quickest way to find your latest download is to open My Files, and then tap 'Recent files'. This will bring up your most recent downloads.

Alternatively, if you know the name or part of the name of the file, you can search for it by tapping the search icon at the top right of the screen. This also allows you to filter the results by file type.

You can also manually search for your files by folder or storage location. Tap on one of the icons under 'Categories' to search those file types, or tap 'Internal storage' or 'SD' card to look in each storage location.

If you are looking for photos or other images, take a look at the DCIM folder in Internal storage or in the SD card. DCIM stands for Digital Camera Images and is the default directory structure for digital images.
